As part of the initiatives of the National Financial Markets Investor Awareness Project which is introduced by the SCA under the slogan “Boost Your Knowledge to grow your Investments”, the SCA, in cooperation with ADX, will organize on Monday an awareness-raising seminar concerning short selling. The seminar is tailored for the brokers and financial analysts working in the brokerage firms in the UAE financial markets.

Dr. Monther Barakat, financial markets consultant at the SCA, and Mr. Abdulla Al Naimi, Head of Market Operation &. Surveillance at ADX will lecture in the seminar. The seminar will shed the light on the technical aspects of short selling and the conditions and requirements thereof. The seminar aims at improving the performance of the staff of the brokerage firms.

Short selling mechanism is a part of a continuous program to update, expand, and upgrade the financial markets. Short selling aims at diversifying the investment mechanisms and instruments and it is a part of the SCA’s methodology to adopt the self-regulated organizations model which was introduced as per the decision No. 26 of 2016 issued by H.E. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Board of Directors/Minister of Economy, concerning regulation of some activities, financial instruments, and trading mechanisms which resulted in transferring the jurisdiction of a range of services and financial mechanisms, including margin trading, short selling, and lending and borrowing from the SCA to both markets
