As part of the events of the World Investor Week 2018 organized by the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) in cooperation with the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the SCA presented the draft document of the “Investor Rights in the Securities Markets” on the sidelines of the seminar entitled “The Role of Financial Market Institutions in Promoting Investment in Securities”. The draft document is initially presented to launch a public consultation among the entities and actors of the financial market about the content of the document.
Dr. Obaid Al Zaabi, the CEO of SCA, presented the document to the representatives of the financial market institutions who participated in the seminar, including representatives of the two stock markets, brokerage and financial analysis companies, and companies providing other financial services, and law firms concerned with the financial markets, as well as the media, investors, and academic researchers in the financial field; thus, launching a public consultation for all parties of the financial market on the points contained in the document.
Dr. Obaid Al Zaabi noted that the draft document includes the key investor rights which are contained in the “Directory of Investor Rights in the Financial Markets” recently issued by the SCA, as well as the compendium of the rights set forth in the SCA’s regulations and relevant legislation, in addition to the rules and principles derived from the practices in the financial markets with the objective of protecting the investors and safeguarding their rights and investments.
Dr. Obaid Al Zaabi confirmed that the draft document is presented for discussion with the institutions of the finance industry and that a copy of the draft will be posted on the SCA’s website to solicit the views and suggestions of the various parties to the financial market as well as their observations and perspective about the same in order to reach a final version of a permanent document that shall form a solid base for all the parties dealing in the financial market which the investor will take into account and which will help the investors to understand their rights, improve their awareness, and be familiarized with the rules and criteria provided by the SCA’s regulations and the legislations in force.
